SAHAS

Enabling Self Reliance

SAHAS India, a social development grassroots organisation, founded in 1995 by a group of professionals led by Sunita Palita, provides equal access quality education to underprivileged children and dignified employment opportunities to women - driving economically marginalised families towards self-reliance.

Over the last twenty-seven years over 500 families have benefited from these efforts - including children’s education on 100% freeship, from premier public schools of Delhi - thus creating a paradigm shift in the socio-economic reality of the family - a step in the direction of a more equal and just world.

Since 2015 SAHAS has been without active premises for its projects, as the donated space that SAHAS had operated from since 1995 had to be vacated at the request of the donor. Despite losing its working space, SAHAS work has continued without interruption, from the home portico/verandah of the founder. Self-employment activities continued even during the pandemic.

SAHAS India is at critical crossroads and requires funding to consolidate, rebuild, and enhance development efforts.

Please come forth and help SAHAS India to continue its mission of scalable development efforts at the grassroots.

About Us

SAHAS India, a social development grassroots organisation was initiated in 1995 by a small group of like minded professionals who envisioned integrating the underprivileged children with their privileged counterparts; beginning with primary education as a milestone. A unique project in its time, it conceptualized a development model based not on conventional ‘grant in aid’, but instead on Local Area Networking and Resource Donation. All the requirements of the organization were furnished by seeking support from the people of that locality, building a community of well-wishers and supporters.

With ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ as the ethos of the organization, SAHAS India over the last 27 years has shown that voluntary participation of people in the community at large can be the best way of promoting inclusion among people of different walks of life and enable and empower marginalized communities to live a life with dignity.

What started with founder Sunita Palitas mission to provide equal access quality education to underprivileged children from socio-economically marginalised families and integrating them into mainstream education systems soon blossomed into the vision of ‘empowering families’ to become self-reliant through meaningful livelihood.  SAHAS India's mission on empowering children through education and women through self-employment, has led to an overall enabling of underprivileged families towards self-reliance. Over the last twenty-seven years over 500 families have benefited from these efforts - including their children’s education on 100% freeship, from premier public schools of Delhi - thus creating a paradigm shift in their socio-economic reality - a step in the direction of a more equal and just world.
